IATSE + Black Film Archive
Film curator Maya S. Cada deserves her own newsletter (fortunately, she runs one), but IATSE looms large this week, too, as entertainment workers prepare to vote on a history-making strike.
Follow @ia_stories on Instagram for trenchant stories about workplace conditions and mental health in entertainment.
“Recently there was a very real thread where an assistant asked what other assistants do to supplement their income, because even after working 60+ hours a week, they didn’t have enough money to buy any food or gas. The thread was so depressing. People were dropping their favorite food banks and the best places to sell their blood/plasma. 100s of comments. This is one of the most profitable businesses in the world.”
Catch up on IATSE in the news and support the strike.
“We are at a stage where the employers have made this struggle about power, not reason.”
Maya S. Cada introduces her stunning archive of Black cinema and its attendant blog. A must-subscribe!
